The Chinese movie 天堂的张望 (I Hope You Are Well, 2020), directed by Du Bin (杜斌), is based on the true story of a baby girl abandoned in the woods in a mountainous region of Yunnan. She is found by chance by a poor, single, basket-weaver on his way home (Luke 10:25-37), who decides to raise her against the practical advice of all his well-meaning neighbors. The movie follows the deep bond between the girl and her father in the harsh reality of poverty and discrimination. When Zhang Wang discovers she has leukemia, her father will do anything to save her. This sets in motion a series of acts of love and kindness, a powerful reminder that “love’s arrows are arrows of fire, flames of the divine. Deep waters cannot quench love, nor rivers sweep it away.” (Song of Songs 8:6-7)
