即使聽到撒慕爾的責備，國王依然固執己見，為自己的行為辯解，認為其合情合理。

然而，整部聖經都告訴我們，理性的主要任務是時時刻刻敞開心扉，順服天主的旨意。我們的思想應當如同香：燃燒時，會失去原有的形狀，化作升騰至天上的芬芳煙霧。願我們一切的言語、思想和行為，都如同獻在天主面前的香，上達於祂。

Even after hearing the reproach of Samuel, the king sticks to his mind and defends his behavior as reasonable.

However, throughout the Scripture we learn that the main task of our reason is to continually open to God’s will in the present moment. Our thoughts should become like incense: because it burns, it loses its form and becomes aromatic smoke that goes up to the sky. So let all our words, thoughts and deeds become like incense offered in the presence of the Lord.
