In ancient times, the sling was a very important weapon, and there were specialized troops of slingers. They were capable of hitting targets with great precision even at considerable distances. What should surprise us in the story of David's victory over Goliath is the young warrior's tactical intelligence, but above all his complete trust in God. David prepared well, but he placed his trust in God, not in his preparation. He allowed himself to be led by God. This, to this day, allows the continuing miracle of the life of the Church.
