September 09 Ordinary time Week 23 Wednesday First Reading

In the seventh chapter of First Corinthians, Paul gives some answers to questions regarding marriage and celibacy.

Paul expresses his preference, even suggests celibacy because of a set of reasons, among which there is the consideration of the fleeting figure of this world,

He seems to feel the pressure of eternal life as a force that compels the disciples to consider the things of this world, marriage included, as just short moments: their meaning is just to prepare the life with God.

A comparison of Paul’s mind with some ideas in present society might leave us perplexed, even discomforted. For many the only meaning of life is in view of enjoying the pleasure of senses, the only sort of infinite that they see (they are forced to see) and attracts them.
