我們今天讀到的預言蘊含著一些奧秘。

首先，既然已經有一位君王坐在寶座上，為何還要盼望未來的君王呢？

或許，先知們對那位君王已經失去了信心，因此他們預言了一位未來的君王，他將順服上主，成就上主的計劃。

其次，這位新君王的起源也頗為神秘，「從亙古，從遠古」。或許，先知認為上主的決定，上主的受膏者，是永恆的，因為上主的決定都源自於永恆。

這兩個神祕的字詞共同宣告了耶穌的到來，邀請我們來到上主面前，驚嘆於祂的神蹟，驚嘆於祂為拯救我們而做出的抉擇。

這位應許之王的母親也屬於這些抉擇。她的生命也屬於上主神秘的計劃。

The prophecy we read today has something mysterious,

First, why hope in a future king when there is already one sitting on the throne?

Perhaps, the prophets had lost hope on that king, therefore, they announced a future king, who would obey God and fulfil God’s plans,

Second, the mysterious origin of the new king, “from of old, from ancient times.” Perhaps, the prophet thinks of God’s decision, of God’s Anointed one as eternal, since God’s decisions are all from eternity.

Taken together, these two mysterious words, who announce Jesus, invite us to stand in front of God and wonder at His miracles, at His choices, which are for our salvation,

The mother of the promised king belongs as well to these choices. Her life too belongs to God’s mysterious plan.
