The text we read today has the same historical background as yesterday’s reading.
The prophet announces the return of the exiles of the Northern Kingdom from the many places where the Assyrians had deported them.
The reconstruction of the cities of the North will go hand in hand with a new feeling of common belonging to the one God of Israel and Judah. Therefore, there will be pilgrimages to the Temple, to enjoy the presence of the Lord.
All this has a source and a purpose: “I have loved you with eternal love,” we will love, thank and praise you forever.
We need to clearly keep in our mind and heart that this is the only real explanation and purpose of our existence on the earth and of the whole history.
