Some scholars think that this section of the Book of the prophet Jeremiah reports some of the first messages of the prophet. These chapters are called: The Book of Consolation. The prophet encourages the people of the already destroyed Northern Kingdom, the “house of Israel,” to trust in the Lord.

He will reconstruct the kingdom (under the leadership of the King of the South) and reestablish the unity of the Chosen people.

To us, this message gives hope against all odds, even when we do not see human reasons for a new growth of the people of Jesus.

God’s infinite power needs, in a sense, infinite weakness, to show itself.
