Among the Corinthian disciples, some liked the teaching of some teachers more than that of others. There were dissensions among them because of their preferences for one teacher over another.
Paul answers by showing that God made them believe through a teaching that was empty of any attraction: they believed through words that announced them the crucified Jesus.
Not any artistic speech convinced them; rather, it was the power of God. Therefore, there is no need to look for pleasure of the ears or of the mind. What is important is to embrace Jesus and Jesus alone, Jesus on the cross.
