The last part of the Book of Ezekiel opens the hearts of his fellow exiles to a vision of hope.

Today’s reading announces that the Lord himself will be the shepherd of his people.

The shepherds of the past, at least a great number of them, did not act according to God’s will and the result was the dispersion of the flock, the sheep becoming easy prey.

Historically, after the exile, priests were the guides of the people and the Temple the center of their life.

However, the prophecy of Ezekiel finds its fulfilment in Jesus, the Son of God leading His people, and in the Holy Spirit, God within each one of us, the guide of our souls.
