A modern history scholar could say that Israel was annihilated because they rebelled against Assyria and did not pay tribute to their emperor.

This is possibly true, but why did they not accept their status of vassal kingdom? Indeed, the prophets advocated such choice, because for them to serve Yahweh was more important than political independence. They suggested obedience.

Today’s historians see only economic and power relationships.

God’s prophets of all epochs see the real history, our relationship with God.

Something like the fate of Israel always happens, when we use our relationship with God to fulfil other goals.

God is infinite, by default all our time energy and love need to be devoted to him.
