June 23 Ordinary time Week 12 Tuesday First Reading

This time the miracle happened: some epidemy struck the Assyrians and against all odds they were compelled to leave without conquering Jerusalem.

(Perhaps, Hezekiah paid a big tribute and that was enough for them.)

The miracle, however, does not mean that the political choice of Hezekiah, namely to resist the Assyrians, was wise.

What we learn is that God’s mercy is greater than human mistakes.

Since creation is a miracle, miracles are the rule, rather than the exception, all over creation.

They should lead us to search for the Lord, to discover His ways and follow them, rather than follow our plans, and then ask for His help to fix what we did wrong.

We all always rely on God’s patience and mercy, but to test them might not be that wise.
