In this text, taken from the so-called “Covenant Law Code,” we can see some underlying questions: to whom does the land belong? To whom do riches belong?
The clear answer is: they belong to God, who is generous and merciful.
He has given somebody a land, he has given somebody plenty of money, of things. But they all belong to God: the things and those who receive them. And indeed, one day God will take back everything: the gifts as well as those who receive them, because they will die.
Therefore, what is the use of such a situation?
God gives us everything so that we can learn that He loves us. God gives us everything so that we can learn how to share, how to give, how to offer.
In particular, no land belongs to any people. All peoples are pilgrims and foreigners in any land. The fact that they live, for a while, on the same piece of land is not a reason for war, or for spoiling other people’s rights, but a reason for becoming friends and helping each other. Otherwise, God will punish us.
