Director Liu Fendou offers a moving and thought-provoking drama with Till Love Do Us Apart, 2024. The film follows Fu Jiayi, a young woman with no arms who was abandoned by her parents and grew up in an orphanage. One night, she finds a newborn baby girl abandoned in a garbage bin and decides to raise her. What follows is an ongoing struggle with her disability, the realities of life and of the law, and the desire to keep the child at all costs. Gradually, love for the baby brings her to discover unconditional love. At times, love for another calls us to give up even what is most precious to us: "No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." — John 15:13 Toward the end of the movie, Fu Jiayi reflects: “What does it mean to be a mother? ...I thought that being a mother meant giving everything. But now, now I think motherhood means being able to give up everything - even the identity of being a mother.”
