In the second section of the letter to the Romans, Paul shows how we walk toward salvation, in hope. He offers two reasons: the powerful mediation of Jeus, in this chapter, and the power of the Holy Spirit who sustains the answer of the believers, in the next three chapters.

Here we see that the power of sin enters the world through the transgression of Adam, pervades all and brings death to all.

However, through Jesus, in a marvelous way, from many sins God’s justification comes, because He enables those who welcome his gifts to be steadfast in their answer and enjoy His glory.

Read in Lent, this reading exhorts us to meditate on the power of Jesus’ mediation: from us He took His temptation, from Himself He took our victory (St. Augustine). Not only meditate, but let his Spirit lead us to follow His path of suffering and glory.
