The words Job utters today tell us of the incommensurability of God’s ways, of His thoughts and of His deeds.
In the context of Job’s protest, these words are a kind of question: if we cannot fathom God’s ways, what is then the meaning of our thoughts? Are they not useless? Are we not locked in a narrow cage, while our thoughts only increase our sorrow?
It will take Job about thirty more chapters of his book, to come close to an answer.
In our lives, the solution of such contradiction will perhaps take even more time. Luckily, the reading of the book of Job is of help, if we let him lead us towards the mysterious Presence that awaits us.
