What we read today is the beginning of a traditional story about a righteous man, who keeps his faith and obedience to God even in the midst of all kinds of disgraces, and is finally rewarded.
We do not know whether Job was a Jew.
We know, however, his wise answer: since God is the one who gave him everything, he acknowledges that He has also the right of taking away everything.
Perhaps, after the coming of Jesus, we can change one word: God does not “take away,” God gives us the opportunity to “offer to Him,” not only to receive love, but to possess in a loving way what we have received, as a gift that both sides continually give and multiply by their selfless reciprocal giving.
