September 12 Ordinary time Week 23 Saturday First Reading

After showing, at the beginning of chapter 10, that the great part of Israel, after receiving many graces when exiting from Egypt were punished in the desert, Paul goes a step further in his argumentation.

Starting from the liturgy of Israel and of the Christian community, Paul state that those who share in the offerings share also in the altar and the god to which the altar is dedicated.

Some disciples would answer, out of their sure knowledge: But there are no other gods!

To this, Paul replies: Yes, there are no other gods, but demons are there, aren’t they? Therefore, having a share in the meat offered to idols amounts to having a share in demons!

This is true also today. There is no third, neutral place, where an encounter between Jesus and other faiths is possible.

Everything must be inside Jesus’ intention, otherwise it will fall into the devil’s intention。

As Paul says: “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.”
