In this reading, from the book of revelation, we see many different images and symbols all together; the effect is somehow confused: how can a city be a spouse, the spouse of a lamb; how can a city be made of a unique stone, with so many foundations and gates?

By the way, when we inquire how the precious stone, “like crystal jasper,” looked like, we find a very rich set of different colors and designs, however, not transparent as we usually think of crystals (the study of gems could be an interesting way to approach the book of Revelation).

The presence of this reading in the liturgy of Saint Bartolomew lets us reflect how much our faith is built on the faith of the Apostles. We encounter Jesus through them, not through other approaches, even if they seem to be more scientific. Through them, not through others, the faith of Jesus has spread throughout the world and the centuries.
