In the New Testament, it is not easy to find references to the Book of the Song of Songs, for many reasons.

However, what we read today prepares the encounter of Mary of Magdala with the Risen Jesus. According to John, she is the first to see Him. Besides, the wording of the text of the Gospel (“Do not hold me”) seem to correspond to what we find in the verse that immediately follows the text of today: “I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house.”

Indeed, it is Jesus that will bring her to the house of his Father, to the perfect union with him.

Provided we embrace Him with all our strength and do not let him go.
