The “year when King Uzziah died” is an eventful time: together with the old king, who had become a leper, his son too had died and the young grandson, King Ahaz was attacked by a coalition of kings from the North.
He had even lost a decisive battle against them.
Amidst so worrying situations, in the sacred space of the Temple, Isaiah experiences the presence of an even greater power: God, the Holy Lord of Armies (Isaiah will us this title many times, indicating the power and holiness of the God of Israel).
At the same time, the All-powerful God seems to be wanting in ministers. Therefore, Isaiah offers himself to enter at His service.
The prophet is alone and weak, but the Lord, whose minister he is, shares with him His infinite power.
Our situation, from time to time, may be the same. We too need to learn from Isaiah to offer ourselves for the mission the Lord has entrusted to us.
