保錄呼籲教會合一。為此，他邀請他們每個人都效法耶穌的態度。

然後，他詳細闡述了耶穌的這種態度。耶穌的行動分為兩個階段。第一階段是從天到地：耶穌虛己，從天而降，取了僕人的樣式。

第二階段是在地上的兩個行動：因順服天父，耶穌謙卑自己，甚至甘願受非常可怕的死亡。

因此，天父榮耀他，使他成為眾人得救的根源。保錄希望教會從耶穌身上學習的，正是耶穌的順服和謙卑，以此來獲得合一和救贖。

Paul is asking the community to be united. In view of this goal, he invites each one of them to have the same attitude as Jesus.

Then he goes and describes it. Jesus has two movements. The first is from heaven to earth: Jesus empties himself, comes down from heaven and takes the form of servant.

The second movement is on the earth: he obeys to the God the Father and thus humiliates himself to the point of undergoing a terrible death.

Therefore, the Father glorifies him and makes him source of salvation for all. Jesus’ obedience and humility are the key attitudes Paul want the community to learn from Jesus, to be united and saved.
