在信的第一部分，保祿談到了耶穌在不同民族之間，在猶太人和外邦人之間所帶來的合一。

與此相對應，保祿現在談到了家庭需要培養的合一。

他談的是夫妻（先妻子，後丈夫）關係、兒女與父母關係、僕人（奴隸）與主人之間的關係。

他的原則是：無必要彼此順服和服從。

保祿在闡明這個總體框架之後，才談到彼此應盡的責任，同時尊重人性中固有的地位差異。

的確，為他人著想，為他人的益處和成長著想，才能真正理解自身地位的意義。

你為人夫，是為了愛你的妻子。

如何愛她呢？

讓耶穌住在你內，你就會時時找到答案。

請記住，耶穌為祂的配偶──教會──獻出了生命，你們夫妻倆都是這教會的一份子。

In the first part of the letter, Paul had spoken of the unity Jesus brought among peoples, among the Jews and the Gentiles. In parallel to that section, now Paul speaks about the unity that families need to foster. His talk is about the relationship between wife and husband, between sons and parents, between servants (slaves) and their masters.

His principle is that of reciprocal submission and obedience. Only after Paul has made this general frame clear, he speaks of the reciprocal duties, while respecting the differences of status that are part of human nature.

Indeed, to think of the good and of the advantage and growth of the other is what makes sense of one’s status. You are a husband in order to love your wife. How to love her? Lat Jesus live in you and you will find, moment by moment, the way. Remember that Jesus has given his life for his spouse, the Church, the Church that you both, husband and wife, are part of.
