October 09 Ordinary time Week 27 Friday First Reading

To better follow Paul’s argument, it would be necessary to read the whole text, starting from Galatians 2:15.

However, from what we read today, we can understand that Paul, by wisely quoting the OT Scripture, highlights faith as the way to be heirs of Abraham, to be accepted to God and to receive His blessing and His promise.

On the contrary, those who rely on observing the Jewish Law, on the one hand do not rely on faith but on works; on the other hand, they are under a curse, if they do not observe it perfectly.

Jesus is the one who frees all from their perilous situation: the Jews from the curse they incur if they do not observe the Jewish Law; the pagans from the curse of being under sin. Through Him, God can bestow His promise, the Holy Spirit, on all who believe Him, as the very experience of the Galatians confirms.

Paul calls us all to reflect and realize that only Jesus’ love for each one of us is the foundation of our spiritual life.
