Paul deals with some problems about which he has received some information. The first is a division inside the community because some like one teaching, or one teacher, rather than another.

Paul reacts to such attitude and stresses the fact that the Corinthians believed in Jesus not because of human persuasion, but because of God’s mysterious action in them. Now they belong to Christ, they are his body. They cannot tear him apart with their opinions about doctrine.

We too need to acknowledge that our thoughts cannot create separation. We need to learn Jesus together, like students trying to learn together the mind of the teacher.
