The prophet announces something incredible: God is about to lead a foreign king to allow the return of the exiles to the land of Israel and the reconstruction of their community and of their traditions.

This message is at the same time incredible and consoling.

It is incredible, because it goes beyond any human power even to imagine such a reversal of situation in favor of the Chosen people.

It is consoling, because this prophetic word illumines all times and encourages every generation of believers to trust in the Lord. He leads history, even if the leaders are not aware of this, even if they think that they are successfully fighting against God’s plan. They are his servants, even if they do not want to.
